Working with the Mad Men and the occasional
genius
The life of a cinema projectionist and cinema manager is a rewarding one but for a
man in his mid to late twenties it meant missing out on a social life, late night buses
and taxis home when everyone is out enjoying themselves takes its toll.
Advertising Agency’s have a range of board rooms and preview theatres with the
latest equipment but require men that can think on their feet work incredibly fast and
under pressure. Making up show reels, transfering film to video, a whole host of AV
equipment to be mastered. In addition you had to live and breathe the life of the
advertising executive, the creative teams and the pressure of a new business
presentation.
While working for three of the biggest advertising agency’s in the world in their TV &
Cinema departments gave me a complete insight to the workings of a modern
advertising agency. No one else in the agency sees the full process quite like the TV
preview theatre crew. From New business pitch, the creative reviews, selecting the
production companies, reviewing rushes, the advert presentation, media buying,
analytics and research reviews every stage of the process involves paying attention
and delivering. My time in advertising was thrilling, I will always be grateful for the
education I gained during that time, it was to serve me well in later years.
And in my down time I was rubbing shoulders with Alan Parker, Hugh Hudson David
Puttnam David Bailey and Ridley Scott - MAD MEN had nothing on us.
